Thank you to everyone who has generously donated to Generations of Virtue for our trip to Asia. This has been a huge blessing, and has made it possible to take more people and resources to minister than ever before. We leave very early on Sunday, November 4th for Singapore. Your prayers are crucial for our team’s safety and guidance throughout our entire trip.

For more information on our trip, see post below entitled “Upcoming Ministry Trip to Asia”

Blessings,

My Friendly Semi

I have come to the believe that when driving a large vehicle with a 16 foot trailer it is inevitable that when merging onto a freeway there will be a semi right there to welcome me to the open road, but only after a minor heart-attack. In light of this phenomenon I have named it “My Friendly Semi”. In all reality it is a good thing to expect because you aren’t surprised when he (the Friendly Semi) shows up, are instead prepared. What do the Boy Scouts say? Always be prepared!

A Lesson Learned

Praise God for His grace. Leaving the Houston, TX convention, I was more than anxious to get home to NY. Now I’ve been told to “fly low and slow”, especially with a 16’ by 7’ trailer in tow. In my stupidity, I let my foot rest heavy on the gas, and the result was a severely blown trailer tire. The trailer is bigger than the Yukon XL we drive, and much heavier. The “what could have happened” is scary to think of. It could easily have spun out of control, flipped the Yukon, etc. However, we made it safely to the shoulder with no mishaps- a miracle in itself. A truck pulled off right behind us, and the gentleman offered to change the tire for us. Here’s where the story gets interesting: he was a Christian, worked in ministry, happened to be a mechanic, and had all the necessary tools with him to change the tire faster than we ever could. He gave me a rather stern talk about speed and shared a frightening story about a similar event which had ended tragically. When we hit the road, he stayed behind us, I’m assuming to make sure all was well. Having a huge blind spot driving a trailer, we get used to keeping track of cars around us, knowing when they change lanes, or get off an exit. Sara and I had been keeping our eyes on the mirrors, so when he was suddenly no longer in view we couldn’t figure out where he had gone. He hadn’t gotten off, hadn’t passed us, or slowed down and been passed by other cars. He drove a rather large truck; it wasn’t the kind of vehicle you lose sight of. But it was gone.
It was then I remembered he never told us his name…

Why Don’t They Just Spell it Lou-Vul?

So, as usual the GOV team is on the road again. This time through the southeast United States. Now, I’m a west coast girl and don’t know much about the south. But apparently, calling cities as they are is just NOT done. For instance, Louisville, Kentucky…Texarkana, Texas…Arkansas. There should be two languages: English and The South. We were at a tire store, and when we told the guy we were “out-of-towners” he laughed and said, “Yeah, I figured that when you called…the accent and all”.

Note to self: work on southern drawl.

Please keep us in your prayers, we get to spend some time with our families for the next few weeks, and then we’re off to Florida for the MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) Convention. Your thoughts and prayers are a tremendous blessings. We’ll look forward to seeing ya’ll soon.

Texas, Here We Come! (Or, Ode to the United States!)

Well, we’re making our final preparations to leave for Texas, and I am really excited. We will be in The Woodlands for the annual THSC convention. Now, I’ve heard some people say that the Lone Star state is not their favorite, but I’ve never really been there (unless you count a road trip when I was less than a year old) and I’m looking forward to it. One of the things I really enjoy about working for GOV is that I definitely get a chance to see the countryside. I can honestly say that the United States is the most beautiful country I’ve had the pleasure of traveling through. We Americans have to have the most diverse country in the world, and I’m very thankful to be able to explore it. I’ve learned to find something beautiful about every place we’ve visited or driven through. For instance, some people might hold the opinion that driving through Kansas is painful, but I like Kansas for it’s amazing view of the sky–there’s literally nothing to get in its way. And while I think I’d rather be in the Rocky Mountains than anywhere else, I’m also very fond of our oceans, lakes, rivers, deserts, mountains, prairies, meadows, glaciers, and so forth. Yes, we’re very blessed fellow Americans!

Well……we are at it again! The GOV Team is head back on the road. We leave on Tuesday from Colorado Springs for the THSC Convention in Houston. From there we head back to New York for the more east coast conventions in the fall and to see the autumn leaves change which is always spectacular! We recently had a planning retreat in the beautiful mountains of Colorado. Boy, you wouldn’t believe some of the great ideas we came up with! You will start to see new plans rolling out in the upcoming months so be looking for those. =) On our drive up in the mountains we came across some pretty magnificent scenery, it is yet another reminder of how amazing God is and what a wonderful world he has created for us to live in. Enjoy the pictures!

Just Chillin’

We are in California hanging out between the CHEA Convention and the AZ Convention. It is fun except that it is 66 degrees and overcast instead of being sunny CA! Reminds me more of England than SolCal :-)

See you at the AZ convention, not in AZ? click here to see where we will be next.

God Bless and have a great week.

On The Road

Life viewed through the mirror of the road.

This is a picture of how our drivers see much of life! =) We have put 18,000 miles on our truck since January…..we see a lot of country side. This picture was taken in Nevada on our way to California.

I know how you guys feel…and I’m sorry =) The only thing worse than your tale Sara is when you are in a 15 passenger van and then have a trailer. I miss you guys.

    peace out home slice =)
